On registration day, a casual Meet & Greet evening reception will be held at the Westin Bayshore Hotel to commence the World Rose Convention 2009. Take this opportunity to network with your fellow Rose enthusiasts and relax into the Vancouver spirit!
Enjoy a cash bar and nibblies.
The Evening Meet and Greet as well as the Welcome Reception are included in the three and seven day passes.
Be sure not to miss the Opening Ceremonies and Welcome Reception, a cheerful start to the World Rose Convention 2009. Meet fellow Rosarians from around the world, reacquaint yourself with old friends from past conventions and meet new ones. The President of the World Federation of Rose Societies, Gérald Meylan, and other dignitaries will welcome you to Vancouver and provide an introduction to the impelling program in store for the week. Enjoy a cash bar and dinner reception.
To conclude and in celebration of the Convention’s “Canada Day”, where all the lecture presenters are Canadians speaking on Canadian topics, enjoy a Vancouver cultural experience at the Museum of Anthropology.
Canada's largest teaching museum is located in a spectacular building overlooking the mountains and ocean on the grounds of the University of British Columbia. Its’ soaring glass walls and magnificent setting are uniquely suited to its extraordinary collection of massive Northwest Coast totem poles, carved boxes, bowls and feast dishes, as well as a diverse collection of 35,000 artifacts from around the world. The Museum grounds feature two outdoor Haida Houses and ten full-scale totem poles, two carved house-posts, and two contemporary Welcome Figures. This magical setting will be the backdrop for our dinner reception, which includes access to the exhibits for the evening.
On your way to the Museum, First Nation guides in traditional costume will give an overview of their history and describe the cultural practices that are still in use today. Upon our arrival at the museum, for those who wish, you can take a short walk to the University of British Columbia’s Rose Garden, part of 400 acres of campus gardens. The original rose garden was established in 1949 and renovated in 1997 as a display garden, and contains mostly hybrid tea and floribunda roses.
Following a typical west coast dinner, the guides will give a short performance of drumming, singing and dancing.
