Visit BC’s majestic mountains and its vast coastline during this three-day pre-conference tour.
Travel in coach from Vancouver to Whistler along the breathtaking Sky to Sky highway, which winds through the coastal rain forest at Horseshoe Bay, along the ocean’s edge to Shannon Waterfalls and Squamish, then meandering through Garibaldi Provincial Park, until you reach the Resort Municipality of Whistler. Something magical happens when you arrive at the summit of the small valley that contains Whistler. A cluster of little lakes is gathered here, reflecting the outline of the mountains high above. When you let your eyes rise from the reflection to admire the real thing, the contours of the ski runs on Blackcomb and Whistler Mountains pattern the forested slopes. Above the tree line, you can still see remnants of the most recent ice age in the glaciers that encrust the highest peaks. Take a deep breath of the freshest air imaginable.
Settle into Whistler for the afternoon. Whistler offers a bounty of activities including alpine sightseeing, mountain biking, hiking, river rafting, horseback riding, golfing and backcountry tours. Or ride a gondola chair to the top of one of the mountains for breathtaking vistas of the surrounding area. Or relax on an outside deck of a local pub or café and then visit the shops. In the evening, enjoy a wonderful dinner with your fellow Rosarians and stay at a beautiful hotel.
The next morning, the adventure continues through the Pemberton Valley, traveling over the scenic Duffy Lake Road to Lillooet. Like many of the towns in the Cariboo, Lillooet was born of the gold rush, and within twenty years of its founding, the town had swelled to almost 15,000 residents. Rockhounds and history buffs find Lillooet to be a real treasure, as well as anglers and swimmers who enjoy all things aquatic. Stop at Seton Lake for morning tea and enjoy the cool breezes.
Your next stop is sure to impress – Hell’s Gate. After a gorgeous drive through Lytton, located where the green waters of the Thompson River meet the brown, silt-laden rushing waters of the mighty Fraser River, arrive at Boston Bar for a traditional west coast lunch buffet while watching the white water rafters manoeuvre their way around Hell’s Gate, an aptly named mountain of rock that causes havoc in the Fraser River.
After a hectic day of sightseeing, relax and rejuvenate at the Harrison Hot Springs Hotel and Spa sitting grandly on Harrison Lake (glacier fed). Here you can spend the afternoon soaking in the natural hot springs, enjoying the spa or wandering the nature trails before an evening of dancing to big band sounds over dinner.
The final day of the tour is a Rose experience. Winding your way back towards Vancouver, after a truly exceptional “round” trip, you will visit several private and public rose gardens, enjoy a sumptuous luncheon and afternoon wine and cheese party…a nice precursor to our World Rose Convention.
Registration for Pre and Post Convention Tours will be available soon.
