“It started with a mass drumming session, and it ended with a joyful communal dance. WCPT Congress 2017 in Cape Town drew to a close in a crescendo of professional pride,” said WCPT President Emma Stokes. More than 2,000 physical therapists from 105 countries attended the Congress, the first to be hosted on African soil. The scientific programme drew interest from all sectors of the profession. A range of session formats were used to appeal to delegates, including the new “Indaba Sessions”, a relaxed and more informal space inspired by the African tradition of meeting and gathering. The Exhibition & Poster Hall was buzzing over the 4 days and the Pre and Post Courses and Clinical Visits allowed delegates the opportunity to see more of Cape Town and learn hands-on techniques. The Opening, Welcome reception and the Party Night were true celebrations of South Africa, with an engaging drum performance, stilt walkers, and a traditional African meal with singers and dancers.
